Chain of Being answers that question with a roleplaying game set in a fantasy world gone haywire. The basic premise of CoB is that the old order of things has been disrupted by a small group of wacky mortals who have taken the heavens by storm and seized the positions of their complacent deities. Ever since then, they’ve spent most of their time drunk on fermented ambrosia, messing with “gameality” and making sure that things will never be quite the same…

If you’re the sort of person who loves to laugh a lot while roleplaying, Chain of Being is your game. In CoB, all of the traditional denizens of a fantasy realm, like knights and dragons, now have to compete for attention with the likes of aliens, superheroes, mechs, conspiracies, corrupt corporations, insane dungeon designers, people who know that their universe is really just a roleplaying game, and lots of other insanity. CoB is “anything goes” fantastic fiction.

This version of Chain of Being is in Limestone Publishing’s house system, Higher Arc. Higher Arc features a mechanic based on ten-sided dice with a hierarchical skill development system, variable levels of success, and a logical and consistent method of resolving actions. Higher Arc is totally customizable, so as to allow players as much or as little rules complexity as they desire. It has no classes or levels, and it allows players maximum control over their characters.

CoB is available in 3rd Edition D20, and Higher Arc our own homebrew system editions.

Are You Undead …or just E.V.I.L.?

Can the villagers root out the villains before they are turned into an evil undead army? Are You Undead …or just E.V.I.L.? is a social party game that’s also a brain teaser. Unlike the classic Mafia or Werewolf games it’s inspired by, you can keep playing even after you die.

There’s trouble once again in the small village of Opferdorf. Final projects are due at the neighboring E.V.I.L. college (that’s Evangelical Validators of Immorality & Loathing) . That means that once again EVIL’s sadistic students will arrive in Opferdorf to demonstrate their cruelty in the hopes of earning a Malevolence Doctorate. This year, one of the EVIL students has cast a powerful enchantment on the town, causing the dead to rise again as Zombies. Fortunately, these Zombies aren’t necessarily evil. In fact, they mostly just want to unlive out their decomposition in peace. It’s when a student of EVIL or one of their Lich creations takes control of them that they attack the living. That doesn’t stop bigoted vitalists from discriminating against them, though—so the vitally-challenged and their allies have organized a local chapter of ERUCT (Equal Rights for Undead, Corpses, and Tombdwellers) to fight for their rights and sew up the stigmas associated with undeath. Of course, that means fighting EVIL’s nefarious plan to take over Opferdorf.
